Inline Skating |
| |
Currently my number one passion (when the miserable weather in London allows it).
You will find me near my flat, at Trafalgar Square or in Hyde Park most fine nights or weekends. The latter is a bit of a mission to get there from home but it is the mecca of skating in London. A great bunch of friendly (and highly skilled!) skaters down there, always willing to
help out no matter whether first time on skates or trying to learn some advanced move...
As for my 'skating ability' - well, having only been serious about it since late 2002 I can't claim too much but
I enjoy the public humiliation of slalom skating and freestyle tricks.
Current skates are Mission D1 hockey skates with some god bearings (Bones Swiss Ceramics)...
You will find more skating photos and slalom skating pages here.

Golf |
|
|
| |
Okay I admit it... I love golf. A lot. More than a lot. After all, it beats sitting in an office, even when playing really badly.
My home club in NZ is The Grange Golf Club, where I last played off
a 12 handicap.
My greatest achievement is a hole-in-one at Ocean Shores Country Club (Qld, Australia), 6th
hole, a 167m par 3 with a 5-iron in August 1998.
On my recent return to London I was back to a 'golf every weekend' habit and playing 'officially' to an 11 handicap...
This picture is from Wanaka Golf Course in the South Island. Beautiful! |

Rock Climbing |
|
|
| |
Hmm... must admit, I haven't made the opportunity since
leaving NZ three years now, but I do enjoy indoor
and outdoor climbing. I am not much more than a
serious beginner climber, my highest rated climbs
are grade 21 (on belay) and 19 (leading). This
photo is from near Taupo, in the middle of the
North Island. The rock chimney in the centre
of the picture is an awesome multi-pitch climb.

Other Sports |
| |
After skating and golf, snowboarding, squash and running are my current main sporting activities,
but will try anything once for a challenge. I have
also done solo parachute jumps, rap jumping, bungee jumping, lots
of tennis, indoor cricket & indoor netball, swimming,
cycling, wave-skiing, snow skiing... |

Photography |
| |
I have only recently got
into photography (as far as trying to learn when
not to place my finger in the way which still happens!). Since the early photos on this site were only
scanned off prints they are certainly nothing to get excited about.
However having finally purchased a slide scanner my recent attempts at
serious photography finally get a showing on my travel pages such
as those on my NZ trip pages.
I still have a huge amount to learn... maybe will finally get to do a course one day... |

Books/Music |
| |
Love to read when I
find the time (devoured a book a day while holidaying in Australia recently). Currently my main reading is technical books to
keep up to speed which are not exactly riveting stuff! Favourite authors include: Nelson Demille,
Clive Cussler, Frank Herbert, Jonathon Kellerman, John Grisham, Douglas Kennedy and Wilbur Smith
amongst many others. My music tastes (or lack of
as some flatmates would describe) are mainly pop/rock, top-20 stuff - definitely no rap,
country or heavy stuff. Some of my favourite artists are Dido, Sting, Cranberries, Seal, Exponents, Travis, BareNaked Ladies... |

Home Theatre |
| |
Until I left NZ I had a
collection of 100+ movies on laser disc (now sold). I have recently restarted my collection on DVD. I enjoy
movies in the privacy of my home with a superior sound system to
the theatres - see my Toys page for details. This hobby is
definitely on hold as due to my departure the
system I have has been dismantled/partly sold and will not be replaced at least until I get back from overseas
in some yet to be determined timeframe. Since the only 'real' home
theatre system has to be with a large front
projection system, which needs a house with a dedicated room, it's gonna be
a few years before this hobby gets reinstated! |
